6 Days primate safari

Day 1. Arrive at Entebbe international airport, meet your guide who will drive you to your hotel and depending on time, you will visit the botanical gardens located about a kilometer from the airport on the shores of lake victoria. You will have an opportunity to see some of Uganda’s city side primates together with a good number of both forest and water birds. These include the red tailed, vervet, black and white colobus monkeys, the squirrels, monitor lizard, spotted eagle owl, barn owl, great blue turaco, eastern grey plantain eater, the rear orange, Wayne’s, black necked, black headed weavers, grey heron, striated heron, Meyer’s parrot, purple banded, red chested, scarlet chested sunbirds, the list is endless. It’s from this point also that your guide will give you an overview of your trip and Uganda as a whole.

Day 2. We wake up early morning, have our breakfast then, drive south west words to Bwindi impenetrable national park. It’s quite a long way to drive and this will take us 8-9hours. On arrival, you may rest for may be 45 minutes or an hour and then after, go for a short self guided walk. This is a walk done nearby your lodge since you are sleeping on a forest edge. You will be able to see the terrestrial and un common L’hoest’s monkey, black fronted duiker, yellow backed duiker, eye striking butterflies and duating forest birds such as the Heuglin’s robinchat, brown throated wattle eye, forest, black necked, black billed weavers, yellow white eye, African green pigeon and overnight in our sanctuary lodge.

Day 3. It is a gorilla day today. We therefore wake up early morning for breakfast and before 0745 universal time, we go to the reception of Bwindi impenetrable national park in order to summarize up all the registration before briefing time at 0800hours. You will start with a general briefing which shall be conducted by one of the ranger guides of Uganda wild life authority, who will tell you the brief background of the park, gorilla rules as well as preparing you to be worthy to make it. This ranger will then hand you to your individual group guide who will discuss to you particulary about the gorilla family you are visiting. You will be accompanied by another two or three armed rangers who are ment to scare shoot away possible forest elephants in case they try to charge at you. You are also advised to take a porter to help you maneuver the mountain slippery and thick forest by helping pull, push you while carring your bag. You will be allowed one hour with the gorillas to take all your long awaited moment camera shorts of a life time. At the end of a successful tracking, you will graduate from the challange. We encourage clients with limited fittness to also try the challange, there is a mechanism from the Bwindi porters association which organizes an African helicopter to take away your worry of making it to witnessing the baby gorilla charge at a mzungu. It’s such a fascinating experience!

Day 4. Transfer to queen Elizabeth national park after breakfast. This park is one of the largest savannah parks in Uganda with many different habitat zones including water, swamp, grassland, woodland and forest. We are driving along DRCongo boarder where we first visit Ishasha sector to look for the tree climbing lions. From this sector, we have the opportunity to see the topis which can only be seen here. We get to see also the water bucks, big herds of buffalos, elephants, river hipopotamuses, hyenas, this is also the best area to spot pythons and then birds such as the bateleur, tawny eagle, martial eagle, lappet faced vultures, and many more and then check in to our lodge.

Day 5. We take our breakfast and then drive to Kyambura for chimpanzee trekking. Kyambura gorge is located east of queen Elizabeth national park which inhabits tourism chimpanzees as well as monkeys. We will also visit the caves in search of rock specialists including the pythons.

Day 6. After a relaxed breakfast, we drive to lake Mburo national park on our way to Kampala and Entebbe air port. We shall branch first to this savannah area which offers unique animals and birds through out Uganda. This will allow us take a look at the zebras, rear eland, leopards and different families of translocated giraffes. This area also has one of the best birding opportunities with birds such as the white crested turaco, bare faced go away bird, African finfoot, Verreaux’s eagle owl, crested burbet and many more. We continue via the equator and check in first to the hotel for us to cool down and change clothes before heading to the airport for a flight back home.
